There are many different types of stainless steel, but the most common grade of high end grills is the 304 stainless steel. Fire Magic Built In Grills and Portable Grills both use this advanced high-quality 304 stainless steel, also known as the
Work Horse Steel or Tool Steel. This is the same type of stainless steel used to make the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and the Unisphere in New York City! Fire Magic burners along with 304 stainless steel also are made of an advanced 18 Gauge stainless steel.
Stainless Steel Grades
•202 Series Stainless Steel uses chromium, manganese and nickel alloys. 202 Series has weak corrosion resistance.
•304 Series Stainless Steel uses chromium and nickel alloys to make it very resistant to corrosion. All Fire Magic Grills use 304 Stainless Steel.
•430 Series Stainless Steel is a cheaper steel that uses more chromium and no nickel. 430 series is not as resistant to corrosion as 304 Grade Stainless Steel.
You may pay a little more for 304 Grade Stainless Steel, but the resistance to corrosion will offset the cost for years to come.
Stainless Steel Gauges
Lower # Gauge = Thicker in Inches Fire Magic Grills use 18 Gauge stainless steel, which is 0.50” thick. The most common of Stainless Steel gauges on burners is 20 or 0.38” in thickness which is not as thick as the 18 gauge. The thicker you get the more stainless steel that is required also raising the resistance to corrosion.
Fire Magic flavor grids are also made of 16 gauge stainless steel to keep your grill with even heat and long lasting durability.
